1. Das ISAF-Mandat

Der Einsatz der International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) erfolgt auf der Grundlage der Resolutionen 1386, 1413, 1444, 1510, 1563, 1623, 1659 und 1707 des UN-Sicherheitsrates, die ihr ein Mandat nach Kapitel VII (Peace Enforcement) der Charta der Vereinten Nationen verleihen. Zudem hat die ISAF ein detailliertes Military Technical Agreement mit der afghanischen Regierung abgeschlossen.

Aufgabe der ISAF ist es laut Resolution 1510 "to support the Afghan Transitional Authority and its successors in the maintenance of security [...], so that the Afghan Authorities as well as the personnel of the United Nations and other international civilian personnel engaged, in particular, in reconstruction and humanitarian efforts, can operate in a secure environment [...]."
