Dr. Alexandra Paulus explores issues at the intersection of technology, security, and defense policy. Her work focuses on the opportunities and (security) risks that digitalization and critical technologies represent for societies, governments, and militaries.
In previous research projects, she has examined, among other things:
- How governments and militaries can manage the risks of the software supply chain;
- Europe's options in view of its technological dependencies on the US;
- The development of international cyber norms and, in particular, Brazil's role as a bridge-builder;
- Developments in international cyber diplomacy forums such as the United Nations;
- International efforts to limit the spread of commercial cyber intrusion tools such as spyware; and
- The public attribution of cyber operations.
Alexandra Paulus is currently working on the opportunities and risks of biotechnology for defense, the practical implementation of software-defined defense in Germany, and policymakers’ situational awareness of cybersecurity incidents in Germany.
