German Information Network

The German Information Network for International Relations and Area Studies (FIV) supports the work of its member organisations. It provides a forum for cooperating on new academic services and for sharing views and experience on issues and developments in information science. Where practicable it also makes its services publicly available, thus enhancing the visibility of the work of its member organisations.

The Information Network is committed to free access to information and knowledge. Its World Affairs Online (WAO) database provides comprehensive, specialised information for policy-makers and academics, as well as for the media, business and the public. Coordinated by SWP, the Information Network provides cost-effective service and support for its members.

The public WAO database represents a national information resource for researchers and academics. The Information Network opens its high-quality data to academic use by providing an open-access licence. It also makes the WAO database accessible on as many platforms as possible, including online library catalogues, resource discovery systems, specialised information services, etc.
