Information Infrastructure

The Information Infrastructure Division is responsible for all aspects of acquiring, selecting, evaluating, analysing, securing, and distributing scientific information and data. In order to provide flexible, needs-oriented and forward-looking support in the dynamic environment of research and consulting, four closely networked units work together.

The Information Infrastructure Division…

  • ensures that the research groups and other SWP work units are supplied with the information they need, e.g. through regional and thematic press reviews, literature and data research and the processing of results,
  • develops co-operative research-related services in the areas of data science, e.g. quantitative text analysis and interactive graphics, and open science, e.g. advice on archiving and publishing data or open access publication,
  • offers a systematic programme for further education and training in the areas of digital research, publishing, and knowledge management,
  • provides support in all aspects of scientific publishing and ensures the verification, dissemination and long-term archiving of the scientific output of the SWP,
  • creates information products for the research groups as well as the Bundestag, the Federal Government and the specialised public; and
  • cooperates as an infrastructure provider and development partner with numerous institutions and external partners.

Staff members of the division are directly involved in the research groups and project teams of the SWP and contribute to research and quality assurance with their respective expertise.

The division comprises the departments Information and Data Management, Digital Services and Open Science as well as the Digital Library and the German Information Network for International Relations and Area Studies (FIV).

The SWP is the leading member of the FIV and, together with nine other FIV partner institutes, provides a national information infrastructure.
