South Korean Trends
Increasing socio-political cleavages and the issue of anti-Americanism *

Against the background South Korea's political development in the last couple of years or so, I will deal in this presentation with some domestic political issues that I deem to be of relevance for the country's foreign and security policy. Taking the topic of "trends" seriously, I will re-examine last year's presidential election with a view to finding out what it tells us about underlying social and political changes. In this context I will also have a closer look at the issue of rising anti-Americanism in South Korea.
