German-Japanese Dialogue

The German-Japanese Dialogue with the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) was initiated in 1995. Meetings normally involve four to ten participants and are held about every 18 months, alternately at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik - German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin or JIIA in Tokyo. The host institute chooses the themes in close consultation with the participants. These may include all foreign and security policy topics that are of interest to participants or appear noteworthy to the host. A longer-term goal of the dialogue is to exchange guest researchers for several months.
