EU Integration

The division deals with the most important political challenges facing the EU and analyses the strategies, negotiations and decision-making processes of the EU's bodies and member states.

EU External Relations

The research division analyses the central fields in the EU's external relations like CFSP, CSDP, enlargement, trade policy and the respective actors and institutions that shape the EU’s foreign policy.

International Security

The analysis of security policy covers a wide range of issues from European and transatlantic security relations to the development of weapon technologies. Additional focus areas include disarmament and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The Americas

The division analyses domestic and foreign policy developments in the United States and Latin America in addition to the relations between the respective states and Europe. Particular importance is placed on the analysis of transatlantic security and economic relations.

Russian Federation/ CIS

The division deals with the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the South Caucasus and the Central Asian countries. It provides analysis of political structures, social processes, foreign and security policy developments, and the incorporation of these states into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions.

Middle East and Africa

The division's work is focused on social and political transformation, domestic and regional conflicts, as well as questions relating to external and security policies in Africa and the Middle East.

Asia

The Research Division Asia concentrates on interrelationships between domestic transformation processes, foreign and security policy developments in southern and Pacific Asia, and their global ramifications.
